A new discriminant subspace analysis approach for multi-class problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Fukunaga–Koontz Transform (FKT) is a famous feature extraction method in statistical pattern recognition, which aims to find a set of vectors that have the best representative power for one class while the poorest representative power for the other class. Li and Savvides [1] propose a one-against-all strategy to deal with multi-class problems, in which the two-class FKT method can be directly applied to find the presentative vectors of each class. Motivated by the FKT method, in this paper we propose a new discriminant subspace analysis (DSA) method for the multi-class feature extraction problems. To solve DSA, we propose an iterative algorithm for the joint diagonalization (JD) problem. Finally, we generalize the linear DSA method to handle nonlinear feature extraction problems via the kernel trick. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for pattern recognition problems, we conduct extensive experiments on real data sets and show that the proposed method outperforms most commonly used feature extraction methods. & 2011 Elsevier Ltd. Improvement of Facial expression recognition is aim of proposed method. This is a new formulation to the linear discriminant analysis. In the new formulation within-class and between-class covariance matrix are estimated on the each cluster and in the test phase new samples are mapped to the subspace that is related to the cluster of them. At the first we addressed clustering analysis of faces ...
متن کاملMulti-class Fukunaga Koontz discriminant analysis for enhanced face recognition
Linear subspace learning methods such as Fisher's Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Unsupervised Discriminant Projection (UDP), and Locality Preserving Projections (LPP) have been widely used in face recognition applications as a tool to capture low dimensional discriminant information. However, when these methods are applied in the context of face recognition, they often encounter the small-...
متن کاملKernel Alignment Inspired Linear Discriminant Analysis
Kernel alignment measures the degree of similarity between two kernels. In this paper, inspired from kernel alignment, we propose a new Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) formulation, kernel alignment LDA (kaLDA). We first define two kernels, data kernel and class indicator kernel. The problem is to find a subspace to maximize the alignment between subspace-transformed data kernel and class ind...
متن کاملMulti-Scale Subspace Grids Based Approach for Recognising Patterns in Applications Involving Multidimensional Data
The work presented in this paper employs multiscale subspace grids for pattern recognition applications. The proposed approach addresses the curse of dimensionality problem often associated with this task. The paper uses a multi-scale approach where coarse scale, being stable and generic in nature, suits well for small sample sizes, and fine scales, being more specialized in nature, enhance cla...
متن کاملVideo-based face recognition in color space by graph-based discriminant analysis
Video-based face recognition has attracted significant attention in many applications such as media technology, network security, human-machine interfaces, and automatic access control system in the past decade. The usual way for face recognition is based upon the grayscale image produced by combining the three color component images. In this work, we consider grayscale image as well as color s...
